80 Steps To La Cata
By La Cata Staff
After an overnight flight and short trip from Guadalajara to the town of Tequila, stepping into the Solar de las Ánimas was like being handed a tall, cold glass of water on a blistering hot day.
Cool – and refreshing.
Whenever anyone asks “So where should we stay in Tequila?” we’re usually quick with a few questions before we make a recommendation:
- What kind of room are you looking for?
- What type of amenities are important?
- Are you on a budget?
- And most importantly… how close to La Cata would you like to be?
If location is king and great service and amenities are high on the list our first recommendation is the Solar de las Ánimas. Here’s why:
Hotel Nuts & Bolts
Solar de las Ánimas is Tequila’s only five-star hotel, is located in the center of town and offers a tremendous rooftop view the local surroundings as well as the nearby volcano. The design of the hotel seems to be typical of classical Mexican historic architecture and the interior is warm and welcoming.
Location! Location! Location!
The hotel is located in the heart of Tequila town and is right off the main square. In addition,… it is just 80 steps from the front door of La Cata’s tequila tasting room! The hotel offers guests amazing views of La Parroquia Santiago Apostol and quite a few local taquerias and other local breakfast, lunch and dinner options are close by.
Solar de las Ánimas has a full service restaurant, two pools, and two bars that serve beer, wine, tequila and other cocktails.
La Antigua Casona is the main hotel restaurant and is open from 7:00am-11:00pm. They serve a buffet style breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. Other options on premise include Bar Chuchos Reyes and the Sky bar are both open from 9:00am-11:00pm and guests have the option to choose from bar snacks and other ala carte menu items.
If you’re looking for a way to stay cool after a walk in the agave fields, don’t miss the hotel pool located on the ground floor or the micro infinity pool upstairs on the rooftop deck.
In the off chance that you are looking to host a meeting or need additional space, there are three conference rooms available as well. We booked a meeting in the lounge that included room service and it worked out great.
The staff is welcoming and gracious – many of whom speak great English. When we visited last the staff we met were very kind and were quick with directions and friendly recommendations around town.
Rooms & Bottom Line
The hotel has a total of 93 rooms with four different types – Superior Double, Superior King, De-Luxe, and Master King – and depending on the season and availability range in price between $130-$200 USD.
The Hotel Solar de Las Ánimas is a great option for the right kind of traveler… and… you’re a mere 80 steps from the only independent tequila tasting room in town!
